So I joined facebook a few years ago, and twitter right after they launched. I decided that what I would do is get a cross section of ‘friends’ on fb, I was really curious how people would use it. I did the same with twitter on a much smaller scale.
So here it goes. When I joined fb none of my real life friends were on, so I had ‘friended’ blogger friends. Slowly I added to my collection and got up to about 35 friends at one point. Some in highschool, University, employed, unemployed, old and young. It seems that most people joined and were really active for a few months, and then they’d drop off. I’ve unfriended a long list of people that hadn’t posted in months.
My teenage daughter thinks fb is ‘stupid‘. This is an interesting observation from a kid that one would assume to be a prime fb target. She’s rural (no access to public transport), she’s social, she has her phone surgically attached to her hand and texts all the time.
What I really wonder is when is twitter going to catch on with this age group? It seems the ideal demographic really. They want to know what all their friends are doing all the time. Their text messages are so short…easy twitter material. It’s free, and we know that’s important. You can push it to your phone, that makes it perfect.
My experience so far with twitter is that it’s a geek realm, used by geeks. I can see that changing though. I just wonder how long it will take.

One of my daughters while here on a visit signed me up on face book. I find I never use it. Oh I check it but maybe once every 6 weeks or so. I just don’t understand what all the excitement seems to be about as you are right, most younger people are just wild about it.
Hope all is well with you my friend
